Custom Kitchen Design Blending Timeless Style and Modern Function
Located in The Village of Loch Lloyd, this luxury kitchen renovation was designed for homeowners who love to entertain while maintaining a timeless, sophisticated aesthetic. Senior Designer Lisa Otterness, CKD, created a Modern Traditional kitchen that balances classic materials with contemporary details and thoughtful functionality.
The design centers around a dramatic Calacatta Baltazar polished marble island, whose dynamic veining brings together the black and white palette found throughout the space. White Shaker-style cabinetry is paired with honed Negresco granite countertops, creating contrast while maintaining a clean, elegant appearance. Black-framed gallery cabinets showcase the homeowners’ collection of kitchenware and serving pieces, transforming everyday storage into a design feature.
A custom-designed cooking area serves as a focal point of the kitchen. The homeowners selected a 48-inch Bluestar gas range featuring a unique side-opening oven door. To accommodate the appliance, the design team developed custom solutions that included a bumped-out hood wall and staggered cabinetry, adding both visual interest and functionality. A custom range hood with brushed brass detailing further enhances the architectural character of the space.
Designed with entertaining in mind, the project extends beyond the kitchen itself. A connected bar area mirrors the gallery-style cabinetry used in the kitchen, creating continuity throughout the home while displaying glassware and serving pieces. A walk-through pantry serves as a coffee bar, secondary cooking station, and additional storage area, maximizing functionality without increasing the kitchen’s footprint.
Thoughtful storage solutions are integrated throughout the design, including convenient pull-outs for everyday essentials, customized oversized drawers engineered for heavier cookware, and drawer-behind-drawer construction that provides flexible organization. Every detail was carefully considered to create a kitchen that is as functional as it is beautiful.
